The Northern Kentucky Law Review is currently planning for its 2025 Symposium, to be held on March 20, 2025. The topic for the 2025 Northern Kentucky Law Review Symposium is Obergefell v. Hodges: Ten Years Later. Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law is uniquely positioned to host this discussion, given its proximity to Cincinnati and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, where the case originated.

For the 2025 Symposium, the Northern Kentucky Law Review plans to have discussions centered on (1) the social and legal history leading to the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell, (2) developments in the law related to family formation and reproductive rights following Obergefell, including the Dobbs decision, (3) emerging tensions between First Amendment religious protections and the protections of individual rights under the Fourteenth Amendment, and (4) an evaluation of the future of civil rights protections under the current Supreme Court.

For the 2025 Symposium, The Northern Kentucky Law Review is excited to invite exclusive article submissions related to the Symposium topics outlined above for expedited decision by July 31, 2024. Articles submitted from July 5 - 19, 2024 will receive a guaranteed publication decision by July 31, 2024

Submissions should ideally be between 10-15,000 words. However, the editors will certainly consider submissions that are longer or shorter than that.

Authors of articles chosen for publication will also be invited to participate in the Symposium in March, 2025.

Summer 2025 Exclusive Submission Terms

Authors submitting during the July 5 - 19, 2024 window represent that the manuscript has not been submitted elsewhere and commit to publish the manuscript in the Northern Kentucky Law Review if accepted on or before July 31, 2024.

Submission Procedure

To submit beginning July 5, 2024, authors should email completed article manuscript, CV, and cover letter to Joseph Gerwert, Symposium Editor, at gerwertj2@mymail.nku.edu. Please kindly title the subject line “2025 Symposium Exclusive Submission.”
